Bonus Halloween Update

There is a short bonus update to the Interview with a Vampire story in the Stories section.

The updates probably raise a lot of questions, so let’s try and set some expectations:

• this is meant to be sort of a mini Halloween special
  • this means Theresa taking over the site is just temporary (the bonus update serves as the “reset” back to normal)
  • as usual, open to feedback, but just dropping Mara out so suddenly in a very meta way feels like it would be unfair to the members who are big fans of her, if it weren’t temporary
• it’s far more difficult and time consuming to do these “ultra real” style updates… there are also some technical limitations that the normal style doesn’t have
  • as such, lower your expectations for how often this style will appear
  • again, the whole thing is meant as a one-off
  • and again, open to feedback

Those of you with a keen eye may have noticed that Theresa was removed from the site entirely when the cease and desist preview was posted. Kudos to anyone who guessed it would be about her as a result.

By now, everyone should have noticed that the site has changed as a result of the update. Although it’s temporary, it will be left up a little past halloween in case some have missed any of the easter eggs on the site. We won’t have a “halloween” theme kept up too far past halloween, so click around a bit if you haven’t already.

Originally the little bonus update today was going to be combined with the POV update in part 1, but splitting them up and having the site be altered in between seemed like a fun concept. It’s nothing major, but little things like Theresa being added to the league, or small alterations to make all of her losses look like wins from the past.

Hopefully that covers some questions. This is kind of a weird update, so I’m not really sure what to say about it. There’s neat things about the visuals, but it comes with other challenges that you won’t be able to see in the finished product (one of them being how long it takes). The story is fun too, but not sure we want to get too meta outside a one-off special like this.

Ultimately if you like the visual style better, you’ll have to scream praises about it because I’m not sure the effort is worthwhile and for now plan to return to normal visual updates. 

Some of you have asked for more interactive stuff, so perhaps this addresses some of that feedback as well. As mentioned, highly interactive stories aren’t going to happen all the time… although I do have a neat interactive concept in mind for one of the next updates (still too early to say 🙂 ).
